SAFAA GOLF CLUB ACADEMY GRADING LEVELS
 


Grade 1 – Red band
 
Every Safaa Junior academy member is awarded the RED band after attending 3 coaching sessions.
Grade 2 – White band To achieve grade 2 you must attend at least 4 coaching sessions and pass the following criteria:
  • Answer a rules/etiquette question from the Safaa junior handbook
  • Balance on 1 leg for 10 seconds
  • Hole at least 4/10 putts from 3 feet 
  • Chip at least 5/10 balls on the green from 5 yards
Grade 3 – Yellow band To achieve grade 3 you must have played at least 1 academy tournament and pass the following criteria:
  • Answer 2 rules/etiquette questions from the Safaa junior hand-book 
  • Hit 5/10 shots at least 30 yards whilst standing on the balance discs. 
  • 2 putt at least 3/5 10ft putts.
Grade 4 – Orange band Complete the  9-hole  putting course in 22 shots or less
  • Land 6/10 balls out of the bunker backwards.
  • Hit at least 6/10 balls over 75 yards including roll to a specific target.
  • Must land and keep the ball on the green from 10 yards with at least 6/10 balls.
Grade 5 – Green band Play the  6-hole  family course in an official junior academy tournament or with a Safaa Professional during a test in 25 shots or better.
  • Must be able to demonstrate relevant basic etiquette on the course, ie attending the flag, marking your Golf ball etc. This will be determined by a Safaa professional.
  • Get 5/10 balls out of the bunker towards the green.
Grade 6 – Blue band Must be able to land the ball over 100 yards at least 6/10 times. The ball must also be accurate to a  30 yard-wide  target.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a free drop of their choice on the Golf course.
    This can include a sprinkler head, staked tree, path etc.
  • Must complete a 9-hole putting course in 18 shots or less.
  • Must play the 9-hole par 3 course in 45 shots or less.
Achieving the brown band is a big milestone in the Safaa Junior academy as on completion you are rewarded by being eligible to represent the club in competitions against players/clubs outside of Kaust and Saudi Arabia. The black band is the pinnacle of the Safaa Junior Golf academy.
Grade 7 – Brown band To be able to clearly explain at least 4 formats of the games (stroke play, stableford, matchplay, bogey, greensomes, foursomes, four ball better ball, texas scramble etc). Knowledge of the handicap system must also be demonstrated.
  • Play 9 holes in an official junior academy tournament or with a Safaa professional during a test in less than 55 shots from the red tees.
  • Successfully completed a junior 18-hole tournament with a correctly filled in scorecard.
Grade 8 – Black band When testing for the black band you will be put in 3 scenarios on the course where you will have to drop the ball. You must be able to correctly proceed through all of the scenarios according to the rules of Golf. (For example, taking a correct drop from a staked tree, a water hazard, an unplayable lie etc).
  • Play 18 holes with a Safaa professional during a test in less than 100 shots from the white tees.
  • Successfully completed an adult 18-hole club tournament with a correctly filled in scorecard.
